Former captain of the Ghana Black stars and Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has expressed his disappointment over Ghana’s elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the group stage.
The top scorer of the black stars expressed his disappointment after the team’s 0-2 defeat to Uruguay in a match that Ghana needed to win to advance to the Round of 16 stage.
“You can’t lose a game like this. There wasn’t any sense of urgency, nothing, flat footed nothing and I’m very very disappointed with the performance today and I’m very very upset. You can lose a game but you can’t lose a game like this…it irritates me sometimes but I’m human, we are all supporting but you can’t lose a game like that,” he said while working as a pundit on South African based channel SuperSport.
Ghana needed a draw to progress to the next round of the Mundial suffered a 2-0 defeat against Uruguay in their final Group H game at the Al Janoub Stadium on Friday.
The Black Stars were awarded a spot but skipper for the side, Andre Ayew failed to find the back of the net.
However, Georgian De Arrascaeta scored twice as the two-time world champions defeat Ghana 2-0.
Reacting to the defeat, Gyan, who featured in 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil slammed the players for failing to put up a fighting spirit.
“I am very disappointed and upset because you cannot lose a game like this,” he said on SuperSport.
“You have to play your hearts out and even when you lose, you will be praised but there was no sense of urgency and it was bad.
“It is irritating how they played today,” he added.
Ghana now exit the tournament with three points. This is the second time the Black Stars have failed to play in the last 16 of the Fifa World Cup
Indeed there’s an end to everything. After more than a decade of being trolled for missing a penalty for Ghana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Asamoah Gyan finally hands over the trolling board to Andrew Dede Ayew.
lAndrew Ayew also missed a penalty kick for the Ghana Black Stars during their clash with Uruguay as Gyan did about decade ago.
Former Captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah in reaction to Ayew’s penalty brouhaha sends out a video.
According to Gyan, what he endured for the past 12 years in the hands of trolls, is now Andrew Ayew’s turn to take over to suffer the same fate.
